The AOC Veng Branch Young Lai Association (YLA) duty team in Lawngtlai on Tuesday handed over 10 Tata Yodha vehicles suspected of being smuggled into Myanmar to the authorities.
According to The Lawngtlai Post, the vehicles were handed over between 2 pm and 3 pm. The team suspected that they were intended to be taken across the border into Myanmar.
The seizure comes amid concerns raised at a recent meeting chaired by the Lawngtlai district deputy commissioner over vehicle theft and illegal vehicle trafficking through the district.
The meeting called for closer monitoring of such activities, including vehicles being transported through Lawngtlai for sale in Myanmar and new vehicles allegedly being taken across the border using forged or fraudulent documents.
The meeting described such activities as violations of the law, prompting increased scrutiny of suspected vehicle smuggling through the district.
According to The Lawngtlai Post, the authorities had yet to decide on further action regarding the 10 vehicles at the time of writing.
