Kohima: Femina Miss India Nagaland 2018, Ruopfuzhano Whiso made waves at the Miss Universe India 2024 competition, securing the fourth runner-up position in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Whiso was selected to represent the state during an open audition organised by the Beauty and Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN) at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, in July.
One of the standout moments of the national pageant was the national costume round, where Ruopfuzhano Whiso captivated online audiences. Her costume, intricately adorned with countless traditional beads, hand-sewn with precision, symbolised the bravery, resilience, and strength of the Naga people.
“The costume with its countless traditional beads meticulously handsewn into the outfit, every detail, bead, feather, color, tassels and accessories depict the bravery, resilience, and strength of the Nagas since time immemorial,” Whiso shared on Instagram.
Whiso reminded her followers that the Rhododendron, with its striking red petals, is the state flower of Nagaland and a symbol of unity and resilience for her people. “This beautiful flower that blooms in the rugged mountains is an example of beauty thriving in the face of adversity,” she wrote.

During the question-and-answer round, when asked about the challenges women in India face and how they can be addressed, Whiso responded that fear is what holds women back in Indian society.
She attributed this fear to the rising cases of assault and rape, many of which go unnoticed. Whiso expressed her hope to use her platform to encourage women to speak up and stand for themselves, aiming to make society a safer place for women.
Gujarat’s Rhea Singha was crowned the coveted Miss Universe India 2024 on Sunday.
