Kohima: The State Drugs Control Administration (SDCA), under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, has launched a comprehensive statewide inspection campaign to tackle the growing issue of drug abuse.
At least nine licenses have been cancelled and suspended.
This initiative is aligned with the Nagaland government’s “War Against Drugs” declaration, targeting pharmacies involved in the illegal sale of codeine-based syrups (CBS) and psychotropic substances, which are being widely misused by young people.
In a significant step, the department has restricted the sale of certain categories of commonly abused narcotic and psychotropic pharmaceutical products through a notification issued by the Government of Nagaland. Although these restrictions go beyond the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, they have been introduced in the interest of public health.
The SDCA informed that it is rigorously enforcing the notification and the provisions of the Act to combat the illegal sale of restricted drugs. Recent actions have led to the cancellation and suspension of licenses of several pharmacies across the state found involved in such activities.
M/s Shanaz Pharma & Surgicals on GS Road, Dimapur, had its license cancelled, as did M/s Yepthomi Medical on Kalibari Road, Dimapur. M/s Z.A. Kiho in Akuluto, Zunheboto, and M/s Salama Pharma in Niuland also had their licenses revoked. M/s N. Pharmacy in Tsumang B, Wokha, faced similar action.
Meanwhile, M/s Grace Pharmacy in Dilong Ward, Mokokchung, M/s Changum Punia in New Jalukie, Peren, M/s Lansin Pharmacy in Mhainamtsi, Peren, and M/s Kichun Pharmacy in New Jalukie, Peren, had their licenses suspended.

The SDCA has cautioned all licensed dealers to cease any illegal activities, reaffirming that no violators will be spared and will be dealt with according to the law.
The State Drug Control Authority acknowledged the State Police Force for their concerted co-operation and co-ordination rendered in providing security and intelligence inputs.
