Dimapur: The Ninth Edition of the North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) Conference is set to take place in Dimapur, Nagaland, from October 18th to 20th, 2024. This year’s conference is themed ‘UNSC 2250: Youth, Peace, and Security,’ reflecting a focus on empowering youth to actively engage in peace-building and security initiatives.
Nikila Sogyal Bhutia, Secretary-General of NEIMUN 2024, emphasised the significance of the conference in fostering leadership and active participation among young people, saying, “Since 2013, we have been at the forefront of empowering and inspiring thousands of youths to become the change-makers in their communities,” Bhutia stated.
“The challenges in North East India are significant, but I believe so is the potential of its youth. NEIMUN is designed to ignite that potential by providing a platform where young minds can engage with global issues and develop the skills necessary to solve local challenges.”
Bhutia further highlighted that NEIMUN is committed to nurturing young leaders who are not only prepared to lead in the future but are equipped to make an impact today. “At NEIMUN, we believe that youths are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today,” she added.
The three-day conference will provide substantive training in leadership development and public speaking while educating delegates about the United Nations and pressing social issues. The conference will utilize the UN4MUN procedure, developed by the United Nations to accurately simulate the actual proceedings of the UN. This initiative by the United Nations Department of Global Communications aims to create Model United Nations (MUN) simulations that closely follow actual UN procedures, emphasizing consensus-building and cooperation rather than competitive voting.
The NEIMUN Foundation, the organization behind the conference, is a youth-focused leadership development organization based in North East India. As the first and premier Model United Nations in the region, NEIMUN aims to cultivate a generation of value-driven leaders, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities needed to transform Northeast India.
