Nagaland: NDPP not rushing to accept party mergers, says official

Kohima: The NDPP, having secured the majority of seats in Kohima district in the recently concluded Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election, has received proposals from winning NPP and Independent candidates to join and merge with the party.

However, NDPP Kohima region president Prasielie Pienyü stated that the party is in no hurry to accept these requests. The NDPP official said that the matter will be discussed only after the new Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) is set in place.

He was addressing a gathering during a thanksgiving programme of NDPP councillor Ruokuovolie Rutsa from Ward-3, at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima.

Pienyü congratulated Rutsa on his win highlighting the significant margin by which he secured the win. He also pointed out the NDPP’s strong position in the recently concluded ULB election as a testament to public confidence in the party and CM Rio’s leadership.

He stressed that the ULB polls laid a solid foundation for preparations for the 2028 state assembly polls, emphasising the importance of strengthening the party at the grassroots level.

Reiterating CM Rio’s assurance of support to all councillors in the development of the city, Pienyü acknowledged the challenges awaiting the councillors after a 20-year hiatus in ULB elections. He encouraged the newly elected councillors to work diligently for the progress of the city and its residents.
