Kohima and Chümoukedima districts emerged as winners in the under-17 girls and under-15 boys categories, respectively, in the first State Level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament which concluded at the IG Stadium on Tuesday.
The tournament was organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Association (NFA).
In the under-17 girls category, Kohima district, represented by Government High School Meriema, secured victory by defeating Noklak with a score of 3-0 in the final match.
Prior to this, they had overcome Chümoukedima in the semi-finals with a score of 2-0. Chümoukedima clinched the third-place position by defeating Zunheboto.
For the under-15 boys, Chümoukedima district, represented by SFS Higher Secondary School, emerged victorious by defeating Peren district, represented by Government High School Bongkolong, with a score of 1-0 in extra time after a goalless draw in regular time.
Chümoukedima secured their spot in the finals by defeating Kiphire district in the semi-finals. Wokha district secured third place by defeating Zunheboto.
The winning teams received trophies and citations, with Kohima and Chümoukedima teams earning the opportunity to represent the state in the upcoming Subroto Cup International Football Tournament.
Individual prizes were also awarded in both categories. In the under-17 girls category, Mhalo B Mozhui from Kohima was named the Player of the Tournament, while Chonghoilhing Guite from Chümoukedima emerged as the Highest Scorer.
In the under-15 boys category, Lamgouchung Hangsing from Peren was named the Player of the Tournament, and Lamminglem Thangeo & Paogouhao Hengna from Chümoukedima were recognized as the Highest Scorers.

During the closing ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang commended the YRS and NFA for successfully organizing the tournament, which saw participation from all districts of the state. He highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of individuals and expressed hope for the talented footballers to represent the state at the national level.
Zeliang also congratulated three youngsters selected for football coaching in Germany, emphasising the state’s support for such initiatives. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks and a prayer.
