Kohima: In another significant breakthrough, the Nagaland Police busted a drug trafficking operation orchestrated by a pharmacist in Dimapur, revealing its sophisticated modus operandi aimed at peddling drugs across state borders.
The Nagaland Police informed that an important trafficker, who ran a medical shop in the Murgi Patti area of Dimapur, was arrested.
The accused was identified as one Md Hassan Uddin, son of Tamij Uddin alias Hasan Mamu, resident of Dimapur. Hassan was arrested from Arunachal Pradesh.
After discovering the accused’s involvement in drug trafficking during the investigation of another case, the Nagaland Police, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Police and West Bengal Police, initiated a joint operation.
“In the instant matter the accused Hasan used postal delivery system of India Post to send parcels of morphine from Dimapur to West Bengal,” the state police said.
The morphine were reportedly sourced from Moreh. Parcels containing 2 kg morphine worth Rs 8 crore were seized in Barrakpore West Bengal, when intercepted by the West Bengal police in February this year.
Hasan Mamu has a history of narcotics-related offenses, in which he, along with his brother Kamal Uddin, has been involved, among others.
The police informed that in some other cases, three accused persons were arrested for their involvement in previous cases of drug trafficking and continued trafficking while on bail.
“Drug Traffickers have been creating havoc in the families across the state of Nagaland with large number of youths falling victims to drug abuse,” the Nagaland Police said.
The state police requested people to continue to report drug sellers and traffickers to Police and also desist from providing support of any kind to these elements spreading toxin in the society.
“The strict provisions of NDPS Act provide for forfeiture of properties acquired from the profits of drug trade; anyone purchasing such property from drug dealers are cautioned they must apply due diligence as these properties are fit to be forfeited in due course of time,” the state police said.
It assured that the Nagaland Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ with Nagaland Police is at its forefront to combat the menace of widespread availability and usage of synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances continues.
