Aizawl: Mizoram’s final electoral roll has 8,35,869 electors following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with 39,243 new voters added and 32,280 names deleted during the exercise.
Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta announced the final roll at a press conference at Aijal Club in Aizawl on Monday.
The SIR was conducted across all districts from May 20 under instructions issued by the Election Commission of India.
Enumeration Forms were distributed to 8,75,068 electors, of which 8,28,906 were received.
The Draft Electoral Roll published on July 4 contained 8,28,906 electors. Following scrutiny of the forms and disposal of claims and objections through Forms 6, 7 and 8, 39,243 electors were added and 32,280 deleted.
The changes resulted in a net increase of 6,963 electors, or 0.84 per cent, over the draft roll.
The final electorate comprises 4,03,179 male voters, 4,32,689 female voters and one third-gender voter. Mizoram also has 4,103 service voters, including 4,010 men and 93 women.
Tuichawng has largest electorate
Constituency 36-Tuichawng (ST) in Lawngtlai district has the largest electorate at 37,236, while 35-West Tuipui (ST) in Lunglei district has the smallest at 14,677.
West Tuipui recorded the largest decline during the revision, with its electorate falling by 1,800, or 10.9 per cent, from 16,477 in the draft roll to 14,677 in the final roll.
In contrast, 10-Aizawl North-I (ST) recorded the largest increase, with 1,394 electors added. Its electorate rose from 25,472 to 26,866, an increase of 5.47 per cent.
Wide gender gap in some constituencies
The final roll also showed significant variations in the gender ratio across constituencies.
Aizawl North-III (ST) recorded the highest ratio, with 1,221 female voters for every 1,000 male voters. West Tuipui had the lowest, at 848 female voters per 1,000 male voters.
The final roll was originally scheduled for publication on September 6 but was released on Monday after the date fell on a Sunday.
