Kohima: A day after the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda, the state BJP said that such an act was unnecessary and serves no productive purpose.
Nagaland BJP president Benjamin Yepthomi reacted saying that the ongoing protests led by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) have highlighted a sense of urgency and concern within the region.
While the party acknowledges the Government of India’s recognition of the grievances expressed by ENPO regarding the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), he called upon all stakeholders to prioritise constructive avenues of resolution through democratic dialogue.
The recent incident of burning effigies of the top party leaders in Tuensang on Wednesday was deemed as unfortunate and unnecessary by the BJP. The party viewed such an act as unproductive, especially at a time when the Central leaders are making “sincere efforts” to address the concerns of Eastern Nagaland.
Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Yepthomi said that the party is deeply committed to the development and welfare of Eastern Nagaland. Various initiatives and schemes such as PM Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, PM Ujjwala Yojana, PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, free Covid-19 vaccination, PM Ayushman Bharat Health Card, PM Kisan Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Khelo India, PM Vishwakarma, and the establishment of the Medical College at Mon, among others, exemplify this commitment.
The state BJP chief claimed that significant financial allocations amounting to Rs. 180 crore under PM-DevINE for Eastern Nagaland alone demonstrates the earnest efforts of the Government of India, to uplift the region and its people.
The BJP Nagaland State Unit appealed to the ENPO for patience and understanding as both parties navigate through any procedural complexities in pursuit of a positive outcome.

While protests are integral to democratic societies, he said that protests should not overshadow constructive dialogues that are essential for resolution. The BJP leader suggested that it is imperative for all stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions, respecting procedural and technical considerations, to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome.
The BJP leader reaffirmed the party’s commitment to address the concerns of Eastern Nagaland and its optimism to achieve mutually agreeable and pragmatic outcomes.
