Kohima: During the budget presentation on Tuesday, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, unveiled the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme aimed at providing comprehensive coverage to the citizens of the state.
This scheme ensures financial security for families by offering a life insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh in the event of the breadwinner’s demise due to any cause.
Additionally, Rio announced an accidental insurance component, providing coverage of Rs 2 lakh each for the breadwinner and three other family members. This coverage encompasses both disability and death, with varying sums insured based on the nature of the accident.
In cases of accidental death, beneficiaries will receive Rs 2 lakh each. Moreover, in the event of total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes or loss of use of both hands or feet, the sum insured will be Rs 2 lakh, and for total and irrecoverable loss of sight of one eye or loss of use of one hand or foot, the coverage will amount to Rs 1 lakh.

The scheme is designed to extend coverage to every household in Nagaland. To facilitate the implementation of the scheme, a provision of Rs. 15 crore has been allocated to cover the cost of premiums.
Rio also informed that under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), a flagship scheme of the State Government which was launched in 2022 and the APO PM-JAY, the scheme has helped to avoid out-of pocket expenditure of patients to the tune of Rs. 82.29 crore for 35,833 beneficiaries.
