Kohima: Public rallies swept across Eastern Nagaland on Friday as demonstrators voiced their demand for the establishment of a Frontier Naga Territory (FNT).
Spearheaded by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), the apex body representing seven Naga tribes from six districts including Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak, and Shamator, the protests aimed to express dissatisfaction over the delay in fulfilling promises made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The ENPO expressed its discontent with the failure of Amit Shah to uphold assurances given to the tribes before the state elections held last year.
Prior to the elections, the ENPO had agreed to call off their boycott decision following assurances from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that a mutually agreed solution would be reached after the election process concluded.
However, a year later, with talks remaining inconclusive, the ENPO took to the streets to demonstrate their frustration.
Protesters brandished banners with messages such as “When is MHA going to implement its assurance – as a solution as mutually agreed will be implemented after completion of the 2023 election of NLA,” and placards demanding clarity on the signing date for FNT and questioning the absence of a solution.
The protests were held across all district and ADC headquarters within Eastern Nagaland, highlighting the widespread concern and determination among the populace to see the implementation of the Frontier Naga Territory.

The tribal bodies submitted representation to the Governor of Nagaland through the offices of the respective deputy commissioners.
Resolutions adopted highlighted that thereafter, if a mode code of conduct for elections are declared by the Election Commission of India, the tribal bodies warned that they will not be responsible for any untoward incidents in the region.
