Kohima: The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU), on Wednesday, voiced its deep concern against the alleged brutal assault of a student by police personnel on January 29.
According to the student body, Moalong Jamir, a 2nd-semester student pursuing B.A (MC) at Tetso College, was brutally assaulted by police personnel in Dimapur.
The student reportedly suffered severe injuries, including damage to his left eardrum, a fractured spinal cord, and a swollen kidney as a result of the assault.
While the police, as law enforcement agencies, are entrusted with ensuring public safety, the ANCSU emphasises that it is disheartening to witness such a blatant abuse of power and a violation of the trust placed in the police force by the public.
The union asserted that while the actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of the entire police force, it is imperative to hold those responsible for such egregious acts accountable. The use of excessive force against unarmed individuals not only undermines the principles of justice and fairness but also erodes the faith of the community in law enforcement.
ANCSU called upon all right-thinking citizens and organisations to join them in vehemently condemning such criminal acts. They emphasised the importance of delivering justice to the innocent victim and preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The union urged the concerned department to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter and to take appropriate action against the unjust police personnel involved.
In conclusion, ANCSU appeals for collective efforts to restore faith in law enforcement agencies and to ensure the creation of a safer and more just society for all citizens.
