Kohima: During a consultative meeting of the committee studying implementation of Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, with the various stakeholders, on Thursday, Advisor Excise Zhaleo Rio shared that the state government has not taken any decision to lift the Act.
During the meeting at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall in Kohima, Rio said that the meeting was being held to discuss and know the stand of the stakeholders.
The Advisor said the committee was formed in 2018 to conduct studies on health issues caused due to consumption of spurious liquor, on the impact of revenue generation of the Excise Department, and employment generation avenues in the state, a DIPR update said.
He said the statements and views collected by the committee on NLPT Act 1981 will be studied and a recommendation submitted before the government.
The Advisor also mentioned that although the Department of Excise has been working tirelessly towards the implementation of the NLPT Act, 1989, the outcome has not been satisfactory and the end goal has not been achievable.
Chief Secretary and committee chairman said the committee has been meeting different stakeholders and acknowledged the NGOs for sharing their opinions, hoping that a common ground that will benefit the people of the state will be met.
Alam assured that the government is working with the best intentions and the committee will soon be submitting its recommendations.
The consultative meeting was attended by Naga civil bodies and church organisations and presented their statements before the committee.
