Mizoram University signs MoU to admit students from Myanmar

Aizawl: Mizoram University and the Institute of Chin Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 5, 2025, at Mizoram University, marking a new phase of academic and cultural cooperation between the two institutions.

The MoU outlines key areas of collaboration, including the introduction of a Diploma Course in Spoken Burmese, admission of students from Myanmar to Mizoram University, and joint research initiatives. Mizoram has been sheltering a significant number of refugees from Myanmar, primarily from the Chin State, making such academic and cultural cooperation particularly relevant.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University, and Pi Mai Lucy Mawi, Deputy Executive Director of the Institute of Chin Affairs. Dr. B. Lalzarliana, Coordinator of the Burmese Language Course at Mizoram University, and Salai Za Lian Pum, Humanitarian Coordinator at the Institute of Chin Affairs, represented their respective institutions during the signing ceremony.

The partnership is expected to strengthen academic ties, promote cultural exchange, and provide students with opportunities to learn the Burmese language while engaging in collaborative research projects.
