Aizawl: The Mizoram government has received investment proposals worth a combined ₹55 crore from four companies interested in setting up ginger processing units in the state.
The proposals were reviewed during a meeting of the Empowered Committee on Investment, chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, held earlier this week at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall.
The proposals, submitted by firms from Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Mizoram, aim to tap into the state’s growing ginger production, a key agricultural product in Mizoram known for its quality and export potential. However, officials clarified that none of the proposals have been finalised yet, and discussions remain in the preliminary stage.
Among the companies, Sjar Consulting Private Limited from Noida has submitted the largest investment proposal of ₹38 crore, while AV Biotech from Bikaner has proposed ₹13.95 crore. Opickpure Organic Pvt. Ltd. from Kangra expressed interest in investing ₹2.5 crore, and Mizoram-based Lushai Organic proposed ₹1 crore. Together, the four projects are expected to generate several hundred jobs across the processing units.
A Special Investment Committee has been formed to engage with the companies on key details including land availability, utility requirements, and drafting of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The final decision on which proposals will move forward is expected after detailed site assessments and technical reviews.
Lalduhoma said the government is keen to promote private investment in value-added agriculture, especially in sectors like ginger processing which have direct links to rural livelihoods.
He said that supporting agro-industries not only reduces post-harvest losses but also creates long-term employment opportunities for farmers and youth. He added that the government will extend all necessary cooperation to genuine investors and ensure timely approvals once proposals are finalized.
Senior officials present at the meeting included TBC Lalvenchhunga and Dr. KC Lalmalsawmzauva, Advisers to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Khili Ram Meena, and Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister Vanlaldina Fanai.
