In a boost to India’s floriculture export potential, especially from the Northeastern region, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram, facilitated the flag-off of the first consignment of Anthurium flowers from Aizawl, Mizoram to Singapore on 26th February 2025.

Abhishek Dev, IAS, Chairman of APEDA, and Ramdinliani, IAS, Special Secretary of the Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram, led the flag-off ceremony. The consignment included 1008 Anthurium cut flowers, packed in 50 corrugated boxes, exported by IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. from Aizawl to Singapore via Kolkata. The flowers were sourced from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl and imported by Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Senior officials from APEDA, the Department of Horticulture, the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society, IVC Agrovet Pvt. Ltd., and Veg Pro Singapore Pte. Ltd. participated in the event.

Anthurium, a key flower in Mizoram, plays a crucial role in the local economy by providing income opportunities for farmers, especially women. The state’s annual “Anthurium Festival” promotes both tourism and the flower’s beauty.

This export is a direct outcome of the International Conclave and Buyer-Seller Meet organized by APEDA in collaboration with the Government of Mizoram on 6th December 2024 in Aizawl, which brought together international buyers from countries like Singapore, UAE, and Russia, along with 24 domestic exporters.

India’s floriculture export reached USD 86.62 million in FY 2023-2024, and this milestone marks a significant step in strengthening the export potential of Mizoram’s horticulture sector.
