Aizawl: The Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs Department, Government of Mizoram, in collaboration with the SELCO Foundation (SF), convened a crucial meeting on April 25, 2024, at the Aizawl Club to strategize an effective partnership aimed at advancing the state’s livelihood sector through Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) solutions.
The session commenced with a poignant opening address by Lalnuntluanga Colney, State Lead of SELCO Foundation (SF), emphasizing the pivotal role of sustainable renewable-driven solutions in enhancing livelihoods and combating climate change within the state.
Dr Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, Director of Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs, underscored the potential synergies for augmenting livelihoods by integrating DRE solutions with existing schemes and policies.
“If we collectively harness our efforts, we can empower grassroots solutions in Mizoram through Renewable Energy Driven Solutions,” stated Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, Director of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, echoing the sentiment of collaboration highlighted during the event.
Usma Chakma, Project Manager at SELCO Foundation, outlined the successful implementation of DRE solutions across four districts of Mizoram in various sectors, emphasizing demands such as deep freezers at petty shops, tailoring machines, dryers, printers, areca nut de-huskers, and sugarcane juicers.
Moreover, attendees were enlightened by firsthand experiences shared by end-users who have benefited from DRE solutions, such as F. Lalremtluangi, a tailor, who expressed gratitude for the solar sewing machine enabling uninterrupted work irrespective of power cuts.
Initiating its endeavours in January 2023, the SELCO Foundation aims to foster sustainable energy access and inclusive ecosystems to address livelihood challenges in Mizoram. The organization has been actively deploying DRE solutions across various sectors, including agriculture, livestock, and resilient micro-businesses, covering all state districts.
