Mizoram: BJP claims non-Congress candidates will become allies

Aizawl: In a bold assertion, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mizoram stated that all candidates, except the Congress nominee, contesting for the lone Lok Sabha seat would essentially function as allies of the BJP.

Lalremsangai Fanai, spokesperson for BJP Mizoram, made these remarks during a media interaction held at the Aizawl Press Club on Friday.

Fanai emphasised that among the six contenders for the solitary Lok Sabha seat, excluding Lalbiakzama from the Congress, all other aspirants would be aligned with the ruling BJP.

Highlighting the broader political landscape, Fanai remarked that the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha elections would test whether the Narendra Modi-led government could secure a third consecutive term in office.

She underscored the BJP’s nationwide progress, boasting a substantial majority with 370 MP seats independently and 400 seats within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Fanai attributed the BJP’s success to the active campaigning and unity within PM Modi’s leadership team. She contrasted this with the Congress, lamenting its dwindling support base. In the 2019 MP elections, the Congress secured only 52 seats out of 543, she said.

Furthermore, Fanai launched a scathing critique against the Congress candidate, Lalbiakzama. She dismissed allegations frequently leveled by the Congress against the BJP, such as attempts to marginalize Christians, enforce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and revoke Article 370, labeling them as baseless and lacking substantive investigation.
