Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) launched a scathing accusation against the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), alleging that it is a government that primarily caters to its party members. J. Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng, Vice Chairman of the MNF Publicity Board, addressed the media, expressing concerns over the ZPM’s governance approach.
While acknowledging that the ZPM government has been in power for 110 days, Vanchhawng stated that Chief Minister Lalduhoma had set a benchmark of 100 days for assessing the government’s performance and achievements. He asserted that the ZPM government has failed to meet many expectations, leading to growing disillusionment among the populace.
Vanchhawng criticized the ZPM government, branding it as a party-centric administration that neglects the welfare of the people. He pointed out instances where government officials were sidelined and highlighted the absence of officials in various committees and initiatives, which he deemed as detrimental to effective governance.
In the 6th point of the goals outlined by the Chief Minister to be achieved within 100 days, he emphasized the indispensable role of government officials and their commitment to working together transparently. However, it is evident that the ZPM government has disregarded the significance of government officials,” he stated. Providing examples, he highlighted committees established by the Chief Minister’s Office, noting the absence of government officials among members. He criticized the absence of government officials in flagship programs and government initiative committees, alleging the appointment of party-favored individuals instead. “This trend is deeply regrettable,” he expressed. Providing specific instances, he cited the composition of committees like the State Planning Board. He pointed out that previously, key officials such as the Chief Secretary, Commissioner/Secretary of Finance, and Secretary of Planning, along with experts, were members of the board. He questioned the inclusion of Val Upa Council member Prof. Thangchungnunga in the planning board, citing earlier assertions by Lalduhoma that VUC members would not receive government benefits. He also critiqued the Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee for its lack of officials despite its mandate to address crucial policy matters.
The MNF representative further criticized the Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee, the Mizoram Resource Mobilization Committee (MRMC), and the Mizoram Education Reform Committee for their lack of inclusion of government officials, which he deemed crucial for effective governance.
