Aizawl: A tragic incident sent shockwaves through Aizawl, Mizoram, on Sunday morning after a 52-year-old woman was found murdered in her shop, VLH Variety Store, located in the bustling New Market area.
The victim, identified as V Lalhmingthangi, wife of C Zothanmawia, was found around 10 am.
Lalhmingthangi, known for her diligent work ethic, often extended her hours late into the night at the family-owned shop. Her husband, who occasionally retired to bed before her arrival home, did not initially realise her absence on Saturday night. However, upon awakening the following morning and failing to reach Lalhmingthangi, he and concerned family members rushed to the shop, only to find it securely locked from the outside.
Traces of blood near the door prompted them to forcefully break the lock, revealing a grisly scene: Lalhmingthangi lying in a pool of blood. Investigations later unveiled a chilling sequence of events – after closing the shop for the night, Lalhmingthangi had been called to reopen the shop by a caller.
In a subsequent emergency press briefing on Sunday evening, Home Minister K Sapdanga disclosed a breakthrough in the case. Authorities had apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the heinous crime. Identified as Irene Lallawmzuali, 34 years old, wife of Lallungmuana from Ramthar North, the police had gathered compelling evidence pointing to her complicity in the murder. Lallawmzuali is known to be engaged in the trade of goods between various shops.

During the arrest, police seized what they suspected to be the murder weapon, a knife, along with other belongings belonging to the victim, from Lallawmzuali’s possession. She was captured at a friend’s residence in the Zemabawk Dinthar locality.
As investigations continue, authorities are striving to piece together the events leading up to Lalhmingthangi’s tragic demise.
