Aizawl: In a joint press conference held with the National Students Union of India, the Mizoram Youth Congress Committee demanded the resignation of Mizoram’s Education Minister, Dr Vanlalthlana, amid the controversy surrounding leaked questions from the ongoing board examinations.

The demand stems from the perceived mishandling of the situation by the minister, who they claim has failed to provide adequate support to distressed students.

The outcry follows revelations of leaked questions circulating during the ongoing Class X board examinations, causing distress among students. Speaking on behalf of the youth congress committee, representatives expressed dissatisfaction with Dr. Vanlalthlana’s response to the issue. They criticized the minister for allegedly attempting to absolve himself of responsibility during a recent assembly session, rather than taking accountability for the incident.

According to the youth congress committee, Dr Vanlalthlana’s failure to offer words of comfort to affected students further highlights his shortcomings as a minister. They accused him of bypassing the MBSE Malpractices Act 1990 by involving the accused teacher in legal proceedings at Aizawl PS C/No 82/24, instead of adhering to established protocols.

In a recent assembly session, Mizoram’s School Education Minister, Dr Vanlalthlana, addressed the controversy by pledging stringent action against the implicated teacher and emphasizing the commitment of the School Education Department and Mizoram Board of School Education to uphold the integrity of board exams. The minister disclosed that the accused teacher had been suspended, and an FIR had been filed by the Mizoram Board of School Education.

Dr Vanlalthlana expressed regret over the necessity of addressing such an issue during the budget session but assured members of the assembly of the authorities’ dedication to maintaining the credibility of the examination system. The matter remains under scrutiny as stakeholders demand accountability and swift resolution to restore confidence in the education system.
