Shillong: Former Rajya Sabha MP Dr W.R. Kharlukhi on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the National People’s Party (NPP) with immediate effect.
Kharlukhi submitted his resignation to NPP Meghalaya president and Deputy Chief Minister P. Tynsong in a letter dated August 24.
He did not cite any specific reason for his decision, instead thanking the party leadership and fellow members for the opportunities, support and experiences during his association with the NPP.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the National People’s Party with immediate effect,” Kharlukhi stated.
Kharlukhi, a former NPP Rajya Sabha MP, has not indicated whether he plans to join another political party or pursue a different political course.
His resignation comes amid heightened political activity in Meghalaya.
