Shillong: Authorities in East Khasi Hills intensified enforcement measures in the city, imposing fines amounting to approximately Rs 1.5 lakh during a naka checking operation at Laitumkhrah Police Point on Friday.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem. Around 30 traffic personnel and 15 members of the Special Operations Team (SOT) were deployed for the operation.
The exercise also received support from members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, including the Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong, who urged authorities to carry out such enforcement drives on a regular basis.
During the operation, officials detected multiple cases of drunk driving, along with several violations involving vehicles with illegal modifications.
