Shillong: BJP leader and South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai, rebuffed accusations made by Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh regarding his absence from the Meghalaya Assembly during the recent budget session. Lyngdoh had questioned Shullai’s non-participation and silence in the assembly.
Dismissing the allegations, Shullai asserted, “Whatever the LO has claimed is untrue. Firstly, I did attend the budget session.” Regarding his purported failure to address issues in the Assembly, Shullai defended his record, stating, “In the past, I’ve spoken and raised pertinent issues, be it challenges faced by the people in the constituency during COVID.”
Shullai highlighted his proactive role, citing instances where his actions compelled the MDA 1 government to allocate Rs 50 lakh for each constituency during the pandemic. Emphasizing his position in the ruling party, he underscored his advocacy on significant matters such as CAA, UCC, and ILP. “After our intervention, the Government of India decided to exempt the implementation of CAA in 6th schedule areas,” Shullai noted.
Addressing concerns about his constituency, Meghalaya BJP lead Shullai stated that he communicates with relevant departments and officers to address the needs of the people. He justified his preference for action over words, stating, “I adapt to the idea that work speaks louder than words; hence, I don’t feel the need to speak so much.”
Encouraging voters to consider the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, Shullai urged a comparison with Assam’s developmental strides. “Give BJP a chance; make a comparison with Assam. Look at the amount of infrastructure and development that has been brought in, but Shillong remains the same,” the Meghalaya BJP leader urged.
It is noteworthy that Shullai is part of the incumbent Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, comprising the NPP, UDP, and BJP parties, serving their second term.
