Guwahati: The inaugural group of doctors recently welcomed to the forthcoming P.A Sangma International Medical College and Hospital (PIMC) at the USTM (University of Science and Technology Meghalaya) engaged in a productive discussion during the “First Orientation Programme of Founder Doctors” on Saturday. The session was led by USTM Pro Vice-Chancellor, Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariah, in the presence of USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and Dr. Biraj Kumar Das, Principal Designate of PIMC, among other medical professionals.
Addressing the assembled doctors, USTM Chancellor Hoque expressed his excitement about PIMC becoming a reality, highlighting the collaborative effort behind building such an institution. He acknowledged the contribution of everyone involved, from housekeeping staff to high officials. Hoque emphasized the commitment to providing healthcare facilities, even to economically disadvantaged individuals. He outlined the institution’s goal to collaborate with medical experts over the next two to three years, emphasizing the focus on quality education and research.
Dr. Biraj Kumar Das, in his remarks, projected PIMC as one of India’s premier institutes. He identified the incoming doctors as the region’s cream of the crop and emphasized the institution’s dedication to becoming an excellent medical college and hospital. Dr. Das expressed confidence in obtaining permission from the National Medical Commission soon.
During his presidential address, Dr. Sahariah expressed gratitude to Chancellor Hoque for the opportunity to work with the USTM medical college and serve the region. He characterized USTM as a larger organization and P.A Sangma International Medical College and Hospital as part of the USTM family. Dr. Sahariah envisioned attracting students not only from the region but also from neighboring countries.
As the orientation program concluded, the participating doctors introduced themselves and lauded Chancellor M. Hoque’s vision and mission for USTM. They expressed their commitment to contributing to the institution’s growth and fostering a center of excellence in medical education and research.
