Shillong: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that the state government is yet to receive any update from the Ministry of Home Affairs concerning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s second visit to Shillong.
Tynsong, along with Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, had met Shah last month in Delhi to follow up on the ILP implementation and other issues. Shah told the Meghalaya government that he would visit Shillong in March to meet with local NGOs and discuss the same.
Tynsong said that they don’t know the date as yet but believes the Union Home Minister will visit this month since he had assured the government of his visit.

“He had assured us when we had met him in New Delhi that he will be meeting us and will be in the state for two days,” said Tynsong.
Shah’s meeting with the CM and deputy CM had irked the local NGOs, who termed it a delaying tactic. The NGOs had mentioned that the demand for the Inner Line Permit was 42 years old. They expressed that they would be ready to continue their fight.
Shah had visited Shillong on January 23, 2021, to inaugurate the 69th plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC). Following the plenary meeting, Shah met with local NGOs but managed to spare only a few seconds. Shah had then assured the NGOs that he would meet them in New Delhi.
