Manipur: NPP chief Conrad Sangma inaugurates state party office

Imphal: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National President of the National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma, arrived in Imphal on Friday for a two-day visit to Manipur, during which he inaugurated the party’s newly constructed state office and is scheduled to attend the NPP Annual Convention.

On the first day of his visit, Sangma inaugurated the NPP Manipur State Party office at Mercy Lane, Mantripukhri, in the presence of state unit president Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, NPP MLAs, party office-bearers and party workers.

The inauguration comes ahead of the NPP Annual Convention, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday at the MSFDS complex in Imphal.

Addressing party workers, Sangma expressed satisfaction over the completion of the new office and thanked the Manipur unit for ensuring its timely construction. He said the new office would strengthen the party’s organisational network and grassroots activities in the state.

Speaking to reporters on his arrival at Imphal Airport, Sangma said his visit was aimed at reviewing the party’s organisational activities and meeting party leaders, legislators and frontal organisations.

He said he would also interact with people across the state to express solidarity and understand their concerns, adding that such engagements would help identify ways to improve the prevailing situation in Manipur.

Responding to questions on the recent examination paper leak that has triggered protests by students and youth in New Delhi and other parts of the country, Sangma said a thorough investigation was necessary to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.

On the Opposition’s demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister, Sangma said any decision should be based on the findings of a fair and comprehensive investigation, with appropriate action taken against those found guilty.
