Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday condemned the ambush in Kangpokpi district which resulted in the death of three church leaders and injured four others.
Initially, it was reported that four were killed in the ambush by suspected armed miscreants. Later it was confirmed that three were killed in the incident.
In a statement, CM Khemchand expressed his strongest condemnation over the dastardly terror act of the armed miscreants firing upon a group of civilians this morning between Kotlen and Kotzim areas in Kangpokpi district which resulted in the death of three innocent civilians and injuring four others.
“I am deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of precious lives due to such acts of terrorism,” he said, while offering prayers for the peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured.
According to CM Khemchand, three of the four injured were evacuated to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Imphal for medical treatment.
CM Khemchand along with Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs and other concerned government officials, visited the injured at Shija Hospitals in Imphal West and enquired about their well-being.
During the visit, the Chief Minister informed that the State government would bear all medical expenses for the injured and directed the authorities to ensure the injured persons receive the highest standard of care.
“This act of violence is deeply troubling and devastating not only for the families but for the entire state, as it disrupts our path to peace. Our state is gradually moving towards peace, therefore, actions that undermine this collective effort of our people to restore normalcy are unacceptable,” said CM Khemchand.
The Chief Minister also said that terrorism and senseless acts of violence that target innocent civilians and threaten peace and humanity have no room in a civilised society.
There is no justification in any society for acts of terrorism in all its forms. The entire State and our people stand together against such an act of terror and our resolve to fight against terrorism is unshakable, he asserted.

The Chief Minister further appealed to all sections of society to uphold peace, show restraint and refrain from emotional responses. He also urged people to immediately stop abductions, taking hostages, and intimidations along community lines.
This can only aggravate the situation. I assure the people that we will use every resource of the State to bring the perpetrators and their handlers to justice, he added.
