Manipur's Hungpung, Hunphun residents in Delhi bond over football

Imphal: Members of Hungpung and Hunphun villages of Manipur’s Ukhrul district, currently residing in the national capital, organised a friendly football match at The Aden, Farm 31, Ghitorni, New Delhi, on Saturday.

The programme began with an invocation by David L Shimray, an elder from Hunphun village.

Addressing the gathering, Shimray said Hunphun and Hungpung villages are recognised as pioneers of education in the Tangkhul community, having laid the foundation for promoting literacy during the early formative years of the community. He also urged the younger generation from both villages to remain focused, work hard with perseverance, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The event was organised to celebrate and strengthen the spirit of love, unity, and harmony shared between the two villages despite being away from their native homeland.

More than 100 members, including youths, families, and children, participated in the gathering, making the occasion vibrant and memorable. The friendly football match generated enthusiasm among both players and spectators, followed by a fellowship dinner and a lottery game.

The event also served as a platform for members of the two villages to interact, strengthen mutual ties, and foster greater understanding and fellowship within the community, reinforcing the spirit of friendship, unity, and togetherness among all attendees.
