Manipur’s Deepak Chingakham martyred in Jammu border, tributes pour in

Guwahati: Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), hailing from Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East district, Manipur, succumbed to injuries sustained during cross-border shelling in the R S Pura sector along the International Boundary in Jammu and Kashmir. He was one of eight BSF personnel injured in the Pakistani shelling on May 10, and tragically passed away on May 11, 2025, while undergoing treatment.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the political spectrum and the security establishment, as the nation mourns the loss of another brave soldier in the line of duty.

BJP Manipur President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi paid tribute to the fallen jawan on social media, posting:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force, who made the ultimate sacrifice while bravely serving the nation during cross-border firing in the R S Pura sector. A proud son of Manipur, his courage and devotion reflect the unwavering spirit and commitment of the Manipuri people. We honor his bravery and stand with his family and comrades in this time of grief. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Congress Manipur President Keisham Meghachandra Singh also expressed his condolences, calling Chingakham’s death a profound loss:

“Hailing from Yairipok Yambem, Imphal East District, Manipur, Constable Deepak Chingakham served the nation with unwavering dedication and remarkable courage. The people of Manipur, and indeed the entire nation, are proud of his bravery and commitment. We will remember him for his supreme sacrifice for our motherland.”

The BSF’s official account confirmed his passing and honored his service:

“DG BSF and All Ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by Constable Deepak Chingakham in the line of duty. He was injured in cross-border fire by Pakistan on 10th May 2025 along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, Jammu. He succumbed to his injuries today on 11th May 2025. Prahari Pariwar stands firm with the bereaved family in these trying times.”

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also paid tribute, writing:

“He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Manipuri-Meitei, his courage and devotion to the nation reflect the unwavering commitment of our people to protect and serve. We salute the armed forces for their relentless dedication and bravery. His sacrifice will always be remembered with honour and pride.”

Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ajeet Gopchade from Maharashtra echoed these sentiments, stating:

“My heartfelt tributes to Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force, who laid down his life in the line of duty during cross-border firing in the R S Pura sector. Deepak’s sacrifice is a reflection of the indomitable spirit and resilience of the people of Manipur.”

The loss of Constable Chingakham has not only plunged his home state into mourning but has also become a solemn reminder of the risks faced daily by India’s border forces. A final salute is expected to be accorded to him with full military honors, as arrangements are being made to return his mortal remains to his native village in Imphal East.
