Aizawl: Leaders and members of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) gathered outside Raj Bhavan in Aizawl on the night of July 21 to protest what they described as the crackdown on students in Delhi and to express solidarity with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The protest began at around 9 pm, after which MPCC leaders submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urging that it be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They said they would continue to support the students’ movement.
Addressing the gathering, MPCC Senior Vice President Lalnunmawia Chuaungo said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi were standing with the students in Delhi. He said similar gatherings were being held outside Raj Bhavans across the country to show support for the students and to submit memorandums to the Prime Minister through the respective Governors.
Chuaungo said the MPCC supports the All India Congress Committee’s stand against the Centre over the issue. He criticised the central government for allegedly failing to protect the rights of students and demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him primarily responsible for the situation.
He also called for a discussion in Parliament, alleging that despite serious irregularities and wrongdoing, the Centre had failed to take appropriate action.

The memorandum further urged the Prime Minister to withdraw all FIRs filed against students in Delhi and to stop what the Congress described as police action against students protesting for their rights and future.
Chuaungo said that if the central government failed to respond, the Congress would continue to stand with students and youth across the country to safeguard their rights. He added that the Indian National Congress would continue supporting students in their struggle.
