Imphal: The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) on Friday denied involvement in the assault of Wilubou Marenmai, an LPG truck driver from Kanglatongbi, who was violently attacked by two individuals near the Sekmai LPG Gas plant in Imphal West district.
In a statement issued by M Shak-Hen, UNLF secretary, the group refuted allegations made by the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi Manipur (LNKRM). The UNLF clarified that the individuals responsible for the assault were impersonating members of the group.
LNKRM had earlier claimed that Wilubou Marenmai suffered severe abuse and torture on Wednesday evening, leaving him with serious injuries, including the loss of three teeth.
“UNLF strongly condemns the reckless behavior of the two rogues, especially during these turbulent times of ethnic tension fueled by India’s proxy war, involving Kuki militants targeting the Meitei community,” the group stated.
UNLF reiterated its commitment to communal harmony and peaceful coexistence among indigenous ethnic communities, emphasizing that it does not engage in actions that disrupt peace.
The group also warned of rogues and renegades under the influence of external forces aiming to incite communal unrest and divide Manipur.
The UNLF appealed to the Liangmai community, especially LNKRM, to remain vigilant and composed during these challenging times, stating, “Together, we can defeat divisive forces antagonistic to our society.”
