Imphal: On Friday, a significant meeting took place in Guwahati, where five Naga Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and nine legislators from the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur gathered to deliberate on initiatives aimed at restoring peace and normalcy in the strife-ridden northeastern state.
The Naga MLAs present at the joint meeting included Minister Awangbow Newmai, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Chairman Dinganlung Gangmei, MLA Ram Muivah, MLA Leishiyo Keishing, and MLA L Dikho. All nine Kuki-Zo legislators, except MLA V Valte, who is currently bedridden, attended the meeting.
While the primary focus of the meeting was the HAC, a reliable source revealed that discussions also centered around the scrapping of the Free Regime Movement (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border and issues related to the ongoing unrest in the state.
“The Kuki-Zo legislators shared grievances and hardships faced by their people amid the ongoing crisis, emphasizing the need to find a solution to the conflict,” said a source.
Another source disclosed that the tribal legislators have decided to seek an audience with Union Home Minister Amit Shah promptly, urging the central government’s intervention to restore peace in the state.
However, Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, also the government spokesperson, denied having official information about the joint meeting, stating, “We do not have official information on that matter until now.”
