Mizoram is set to host the second edition of the Aizawl International Half Marathon, an event aimed at promoting sports, culture and tourism in the state. The marathon, described as “a festival celebrating sports and life,” was announced by Mizoram Sports Resident Commissioner Alexander V. Chongthu.
Set against Aizawl’s scenic hills, the event will feature multiple categories for junior, senior and professional runners, including international participants from Africa. Officials said the growing global participation reflects the marathon’s expanding appeal beyond the region.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,

Chongthu also noted that improved connectivity following the inauguration of the Aizawl railway station by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would make it easier for athletes and tourists from across India to reach the city.
Organisers said the event goes beyond athletics, representing community spirit, youth engagement and healthy living. The marathon is part of Mizoram’s wider effort to promote sports tourism and position Aizawl as one of India’s emerging sporting destinations.
