The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has seized nearly 196 kg of ganja worth more than Rs 19.69 lakh during multiple operations conducted between 25 September and 2 October. Two women have been apprehended in connection with the smuggling.
On 1 October, RPF personnel seized 14.1 kg of ganja worth about Rs 1.41 lakh in two separate operations. At Dimapur railway station, 10 kg valued at Rs 1 lakh was recovered, while another 4.1 kg worth Rs 41,000 was seized from Train No. 13174 DN at New Coochbehar station by the CPDS team of RPF Alipurduar Junction. The recovered items were treated as unclaimed and handed over to the respective Government Railway Police (GRP) units for legal action.
Earlier, on 30 September, an RPF team at Agartala recovered 31 kg of unclaimed ganja worth approximately Rs 3.10 lakh from the station yard. The case was handed over to the GRP Agartala for further investigation.
On 25 September, a joint RPF-GRP team at Badarpur railway station intercepted two women passengers on Train No. 12508 (Silchar–Thiruvananthapuram Central Express). On inspection, their bags were found to contain 26.4 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 2.64 lakh. Both women were detained, and the seized items were handed over to GRP Badarpur.
The RPF of NFR said it continues to maintain strict vigilance against smuggling, theft, and human trafficking. It has also urged passengers to report suspicious activity during train journeys by calling the toll-free helpline number 139.
