Aizawl: Village Councils across Mizoram have received more than ₹14.52 crore in untied grants under the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) for the financial year 2025–26.
According to official information, the Union Government has released the second installment of untied grants worth ₹14.40 crore, along with ₹0.1209 crore that was withheld from the first installment of FY 2023–24.
In total, 808 eligible Village Councils in the state will benefit from the latest release.
Earlier in August 2025, Mizoram had received ₹14.2761 crore for 827 eligible Village Councils as part of the 2023–24 XV FC grants.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation) recommend the release of XV FC grants for Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). These funds are then released by the Ministry of Finance in two installments during a financial year.
Untied Grants are meant to support location-specific development needs under the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding salaries and establishment expenditures. In contrast, Tied Grants are specifically earmarked for sanitation, solid and liquid waste management, maintenance of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, and the supply and management of drinking water resources, including rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
