Renowned journalist and Editor-in-Chief of EastMojo Karma Paljor was conferred with the Khangchendzonga Kalam Puraskar 2025, the highest honour by the Press Club of Sikkim (PCS), during its 23rd Foundation Day celebration on July 17. The award was conferred during a ceremony held in Gangtok, which was attended by several veteran and senior journalists of the state. The Khangchendzonga Kalam Puraskar is given annually to individuals who have made enduring contributions to the field of journalism and public discourse.
A native of Rabong in Namchi district, South Sikkim, Paljor has spent over two decades working at the intersection of news, storytelling and public interest media. He began his journalism career at The Times of India before moving into broadcast news with CNBC-TV18, eventually becoming one of the founding anchors at CNN-News18, where he played a crucial role in shaping flagship shows like India Positive, Budget Yatra, Axe the Tax, and Reporters Project.
Over the years, Paljor has earned numerous recognitions, including two Ramnath Goenka Awards for Excellence in Journalism—in 2011 (Business & Economic Reporting) and 2014 (On-the-Spot Reporting). He was also named Reporter of the Year in 2010 by IndianTelevision.com and received multiple ENBA Awards for his coverage of the Uttarakhand floods (2013) and Cyclone Phailin (2014).
In 2018, he co-founded Atvi Infotainment, a production house dedicated to impactful storytelling, and launched EastMojo, one of the Northeast’s first digital-only news platforms. Through this, Paljor has brought critical focus to stories from the region that are often overlooked by national media. Among his more recent honours is the RG Baruah Memorial Award for Excellence in Journalism, awarded to him by The Assam Tribune in 2024.
