Dimapur: In a crucial development in the Naga political scenario, senior leader C. Singson, a member of the Collective Leadership (MCL) of the GPRN/NSCN (Neokpao-Alezo), along with a group of prominent leaders from the Kuki region, has pledged allegiance to N. Kitovi Zhimomi, Convenor of the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPGs).
In a statement titled “Policy for Re-unification & Statement,” C. Singson announced his decision, declaring his allegiance to the leadership of N. Kitovi Zhimomi.
Singson reflected on the decades-long political journey of the Nagas, marked by shifting alliances and internal divisions. He noted the growing complexity due to the rise of multiple factions and frequent defections within the movement.
The statement also acknowledged the historical contributions of the Kuki community to the Naga national movement and expressed concern over their marginalisation in the political process.
Singson cited the legacy of Kuki leaders such as the late Seikhohen and the late Lengjang, who were associated with the early phases of the Naga political movement, including their roles “as Zezhabo drafting committee member and Simon Commission signatory, respectively.” He expressed dissatisfaction with the present status of Kuki involvement.
“Our selfless labour and participation is being reduced to almost unnoticeable grim statistic,” he stated.
Referring to his own involvement as a signatory in the 2009 factional reconciliation process facilitated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), Singson stated that despite sincere efforts, “the fate and future political stature of the Kukis of Nagaland have so far been sidelined.”
Highlighting the need for unity, he endorsed the re-unification initiative under the leadership of N. Kitovi Zhimomi, supporting the Agreed Position signed between the WC-NNPGs and the Government of India on November 17, 2017.
“Swayed socially and charged emotionally under such circumstance, I seek today for the best way forward to be the panacea for all ills to me in the process of Nagas political solution hung ahead. I have found no other better political slogan than the only clarion call for re-unification in the spirit of reunionism with like-minded old and new Naga national workers and leaders together shift allegiance to the leadership of N. Kitovi Zhimomi as Convenor, Working Committee (NNPG), in upholding the sanctity of the AGREED POSITION with GOI, Nov. 17, 2017,” Singson concluded.
Together with Singson, numerous prominent functionaries from the Kuki region—including Kilonsers, senior Tatars, women wing leaders, and Athibung Command—have collectively declared allegiance to the leadership of N. Kitovi Zhimomi, Convenor of the Working Committee, NNPGs.
