Imphal: Constable Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), who laid down his life in the line of duty in Jammu, was laid to rest at his hometown in Imphal East on Tuesday.
A state honour was accorded to the late Constable during a wreath-laying ceremony held at Imphal Airport before his mortal remains were taken to his native village at Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai in Imphal East.
Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, visited Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to pay his respects to the mortal remains of Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham (25), who served in the 7th Battalion of the BSF. As a mark of solemn tribute, the Governor laid a wreath during the ceremonial homage, honouring the courage and sacrifice of the martyr.
Several top political figures, including Lok Sabha MP Bimol Akoijam, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K. Meghachandra, and others also attended the wreath-laying ceremony, offering their highest tributes to the fallen hero.
Senior officials from the BSF, Manipur Police, Indian Army, Assam Rifles, State Administration, and the bereaved family were present to honour the brave soldier, whose dedication and service to the nation will be remembered with pride.
The ceremony reflected the state’s collective grief and deep gratitude for Constable Deepak’s supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Earlier, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh visited Chingakham’s residence and met the bereaved family members.
“His quiet courage and deep sense of service will always be remembered with respect. The love and pride his family holds for him are deeply moving. May his soul rest in peace, and may the family find strength in this difficult time,” Singh posted on Facebook.
MPCC president Meghachandra also paid tribute, stating, “His martyrdom in the service of the nation in cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, Jammu District, in Operation Sindoor, will be inked in the history of our fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.”
Meanwhile, the state government has announced an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh for the family of Constable Deepak Chingakham, who was martyred in a drone attack from across the Pakistan border at the Kharkhola Border Outpost (BOP) in Jammu on May 10.
Constable Chingakham is survived by his father, mother, and brother.
