The Verdict [False]

The video is from Indonesia. It shows a theme park being demolished as the buildings did not have permits. It is not a mosque in China or India.

What’s the claim?

Social media users have falsely claimed that a video of a building being demolished shows a mosque being demolished in China or India.

The video shows a turquoise building being razed by a bulldozer.

The caption of one post (archived here) claims that China is destroying mosques after “declaring Islam a mental illness.” Other posts on X and YouTube (archived herehere, and here) sharing the same video claim it shows a mosque being demolished in Uttarakhand, India. A Facebook post (archived here) sharing a photo of the building being demolished, claims it shows “bulldozers in India destroying illegal mosques.”

However, the video is actually from Indonesia and shows a theme park in Java where several buildings were demolished for violating land permits.

What did we find?

A reverse image search of keyframes in the video led us to a YouTube video (archived here) uploaded on March 7, 2025. The video begins with the destruction of the structure visible in the viral video, which is already somewhat demolished in this video. The title of the video in Indonesian reads, “End of the story for Hibisc Fantasy Tourism Park.” Hibisc Fantasy is a theme park located in the Bogor Regency, in Indonesia’s West Java.

An Instagram post (archived here) by a local media outlet that contained visuals of the same structure being demolished. According to the post’s caption, the video shows demolitions from March 7, 2025. It adds that the demolitions were ordered by West Java governor Dedi Mulyadi after the buildings were found to have violated land permits.

The structure is also visible at the 0:22 second mark of a news report by Indonesian news outlet TribunNews uploaded to YouTube on March 6, 2025 (archived here). The report explains that the structure was believed to be a trigger for flash floods that had occurred that week.

Multiple Indonesian news agencies reported on the incident, including CNN Indonesia. According to the reports, the theme park was built on plantation land and it violated construction rules, exceeding the number of buildings allowed on plantations.

An official told CNN that these violations were the main cause of flash floods in the area which led to the governor’s decision to order the sealing and demolition of the park. This began on March 6, 2025, and continued on March 7, 2025, when the structure seen in the viral claims was demolished.

We also did not find any reports of China banning Islam. Islam in China is not outrightly banned, although those practicing the religion in China have been subject to state repression and several restrictions on how the religion can be practiced.

The verdict

This video does not show a mosque being demolished in China or India. It shows a building in a theme park in Java, Indonesia, being demolished for violating land permits.
