Imphal: Two persons who sustained bullet injuries in an ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district were airlifted to Imphal on Friday evening for advanced medical treatment, official sources said.
They are currently undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
According to officials, suspected Kuki armed miscreants ambushed members of the Naga Village Guard near Sinakeithei village earlier in the day. One Village Guard member was killed in the attack, while four others were injured.
The injured were initially rushed to Ukhrul District Hospital. However, doctors later referred two of them to RIMS, Imphal, due to the severity of their injuries.
The two persons airlifted to Imphal have been identified as Ramshang (32), who sustained a serious bullet injury to the chin, and Shonshok (36), who suffered a bullet injury to the thigh. Sources said four to five pellets remain lodged in Shonshok’s thigh, resulting in continuous bleeding.
Meanwhile, the other two injured persons are undergoing treatment at Ukhrul District Hospital. They have been identified as Horrei (26), who sustained shrapnel injuries to the back of his head, and Ramnganing Mahon (34), who suffered a bullet injury to the leg.
Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum and Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing visited RIMS and met the injured persons.
