Mizoram is positioning itself as a potential “Winter Capital of India,” with plans underway to strengthen its tourism sector through a Tourism Conclave scheduled for October.
On Tuesday morning, Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar met officials of NITI Aayog at Mizoram House in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, to discuss preparations for the conclave and strategies to ensure it delivers tangible benefits for the state. The NITI Aayog delegation was led by Swapnalee Bhattacharya, ISS, Deputy Director General.
During the meeting, the minister highlighted a steady rise in tourist arrivals following the introduction of the Sairang rail link, noting that over a thousand visitors are now arriving in the state each month. With improved connectivity, he said the numbers are expected to increase further.
He added that efforts are ongoing to develop Mizoram as a winter destination, while also expanding tourism offerings to encourage visitors to stay longer.
It was proposed that a pre-conclave meeting be held in May 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting will bring together tourism industry representatives and stakeholders from across India to discuss strengthening Mizoram’s tourism sector.
The outcomes of the pre-conclave are expected to shape the main Tourism Conclave in October, with a focus on attracting wider participation and ensuring concrete outcomes for the state.
