A fire broke out at SOHUM Emporia in Guwahati late on Tuesday night, causing extensive damage to the multi-storey commercial complex.
The blaze, which is believed to have begun around midnight, spread rapidly through all six floors of the building. The situation escalated within minutes, making the structure difficult to access and control.
SOHUM Emporia, located in the ABC area of the city, houses several branches of the State Bank of India. All of them were severely affected.

Initial assessments indicate that cash, documents and property worth crores may have been destroyed.
Firefighters were unable to remove any materials from inside the premises before the flames intensified.
More than a dozen fire tenders were deployed, and teams had been working for nearly six hours at the time of filing this report. The fire had not yet been fully brought under control.
The cause of the incident has not been established, and an investigation is in progress.
