Guwahati woman attacks neighbours with hot oil; five injured

Guwahati: In a shocking incident in North Guwahati’s Amingaon area, a woman allegedly attacked her neighbours with boiling hot oil over a boundary dispute, resulting in critical injuries to five people, including a minor girl.

The accused, identified as Jonali Hazarika Kalita, has been detained by local police, Hindustan Times reported. A case has been reportedly registered against Jonali under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The report stated that the altercation began on Friday when an argument erupted between the neighbours over the common boundary of their properties. Efforts were made to resolve the issue with a meeting organised by other neighbours on Friday, but the disagreement continued into the next day leading to the incident.

According to the victims, Jonali entered their house unannounced with a bowl of hot oil and threw it at them.

The injured, identified as Minati Boro, Sakina Bibi, Priti Begum, Padumi Boro, Mina Boro, and Sonmoni Boro, were immediately rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) with grievous injuries.

The case is under investigation.
