Dibrugarh: Five persons from Assam’s North Lakhimpur district were killed in a tragic road accident in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district on Saturday after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a gorge near Seppa.
The deceased have been identified as Bulbul Hussain, Abdul Hussain, Nur Hussain, Amjat Ali and Saidul Ali, all residents of North Lakhimpur in Assam.
Confirming the incident, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chetia said the accident occurred while the victims were returning to Seppa in a Bolero vehicle.
“The accident took place while they were returning to Seppa. The Bolero vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge after the driver lost control. Four people died on the spot, while a fifth person succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” Chetia said.
According to officials, the victims had attended the weekly Friday Market at Rilloh and were returning to Seppa when the accident took place.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the mishap occurred between 9 am and 10 am. The vehicle had reportedly left Rilloh shortly before the accident.

During spot verification, rescue teams found four occupants dead at the scene, while one survivor was rescued with serious injuries and rushed to District Hospital, Seppa. However, despite medical efforts, the injured person later died during treatment.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
