Dibrugarh: A shocking incident of alleged brutality by a school teacher has triggered widespread outrage in Assam’s Charaideo district after CCTV footage reportedly captured an assistant teacher mercilessly assaulting students inside a primary school classroom.

The incident took place at Mathurapur Tea Garden Primary School, where assistant teacher Ariful Islam has been accused of physically abusing several minor students during class hours.

According to allegations, the teacher not only subjected the children to severe physical punishment but also allegedly attempted to throw a student out of a classroom window, sending shockwaves across the region.

The incident reportedly came to light after the school’s head teacher reviewed CCTV footage installed inside the classroom. The footage allegedly showed repeated acts of violence against students, leaving parents, guardians, and local residents deeply disturbed.

Sources further alleged that some students were forced to massage the teacher inside the classroom, raising serious concerns over misconduct, abuse of authority, and the safety of children within the educational institution.

Following the emergence of the incident, the Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA), Mathurapur Sub-Branch, submitted a memorandum to the Charaideo District Commissioner demanding strict legal and departmental action against the accused teacher.

In the memorandum, ATTSA described the alleged acts as “inhuman” and stated that such behaviour had severely endangered the safety, dignity, and mental well-being of students. The organisation also warned of democratic agitation programmes if immediate and exemplary action is not taken against the accused.

The incident has sparked intense public anger across the district, with parents, student bodies, and concerned citizens strongly condemning the alleged acts and demanding stringent punishment. Many residents stated that educational institutions, regarded as temples of learning, must remain safe spaces for children and should never become centres of fear and violence.

Following complaints regarding the alleged abuse and harsh treatment of students, police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested the accused teacher. Authorities are currently examining all aspects of the case, while officials from the Education Department are also expected to initiate a separate inquiry into the matter.

The incident reportedly occurred during regular class hours, heightening concerns among parents and local residents over the safety and protection of schoolchildren inside educational institutions. Further investigation is underway.
