Guwahati: In a bid to further enhance rail facilities in the Northeast and Assam, the interim Budget 2024-25 has allocated Rs 10,369 crore for railway infrastructure projects.
As per an update, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), 60 stations in the Northeast are set to be redeveloped with world-class modern amenities. Among the selected railway stations, Dhemaji railway station in Assam will receive a significant facelift at a cost of Rs 6.34 crore.
Dhemaji railway station, an important station serving Dhemaji Town under the Tinsukia Division of NFR, will undergo extensive redevelopment.
Significant physical progress has already been achieved on various ongoing and proposed works. Plans include a 12-meter wide foot overbridge (FOB) with retail kiosks and other passenger amenities.
New FOBs will be equipped with lifts to ensure easy accessibility to each platform and part of the station. Locations for the FOBs have been decided, and a separate master plan is being prepared for the benefit of Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).
Additional upgrades include the construction of separate toilet blocks for male and female passengers, improved platform layout, signage, drainage, and cable route plans. The station will also feature rainwater harvesting provisions, a sewage treatment plant, electric substations, an EI building, and a solar plant.

Proper lighting with signage will ensure the station premises are safe and easily accessible for all passengers. Improved parking facilities and beautification of the circulating area are also planned, along with the development of separate entry and exit paths to offer better accessibility for passengers.
The upgradation of Dhemaji railway station is expected to create new employment opportunities, stimulate business growth, and improve ease of travel for passengers. The upgraded station will serve as a hub for socio-economic activities in the nearby areas, promoting both connectivity and economic growth.
