SILCHAR: In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old man from southern Assam’s Cachar district was killed in an accident in Mizoram on Thursday. Another man from Cachar district sustained critical injuries in the mishap.
The deceased, Noor Ahmed, hailed from Rajghat, Bhaga Bazar under the Dholai assembly constituency.
According to information gathered from various sources, Noor departed from his native place in a Bolero pickup vehicle (AS-11 FC-0401) on Wednesday evening to travel to Mizoram.
Around 1 am on Thursday, near Serkhan in Kolasib district’s Thingdawl, approximately 142 km from Silchar, he lost control while trying to allow another vehicle to pass. The Bolero pickup vehicle fell into a deep gorge on the roadside, resulting in Noor’s death.

Another man, Moinul Haque, a resident of Bazarghat, Sonai, who was with Noor, suffered critical injuries. Locals gathered at the spot after the accident, recovered Noor, and rushed him to a hospital in Lungdai where he was declared brought dead. Noor’s body was subsequently brought to his native village, Rajghat, and he was buried at a burial site as per Islamic rituals in the presence of a large number of villagers on Thursday evening.
Noor is survived by his parents, wife, two sons, and a daughter.
