Guwahati: A suspected rhino poacher was shot dead during a confrontation with forest guards at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
As reported by IANS, Director of Kaziranga National Park, Sonali Ghosh, informed reporters that the incident unfolded after receiving intelligence inputs regarding the presence of poachers in the Eralihool area of the park.
In response, forest guards set up an ambush on Friday night.
According to Ghosh, during the early hours of Saturday, a group of three or four rhino poachers attempted to infiltrate the park. However, they were met with resistance from the deployed security team.
“As the security team was already deployed in the area, they retaliated and one suspected rhino poacher died in the encounter,” Ghosh was quoted. The encounter took place around 3AM.
The remaining members of the group managed to evade capture and flee the scene, Ghosh added.
