Dibrugarh: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to assess the extent of the damage caused by heavy rains and flash floods.
Following the survey, the leaders visited Boying village in Pasighat, one of the worst-affected areas.
Sharing an update on X, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the team had witnessed extensive damage caused by the Sibo Korong River.
“Landed at Pasighat and went straight to Boying village with Union Ministers Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan ji and Shri Kiren Rijiju ji. The damage from the Sibo Korong River is massive. We saw it firsthand. We will work on a permanent flood protection solution to protect our people and their future,” Khandu posted.
In another post, he said the team assessed the flood situation both from the air and on the ground before interacting with affected residents in Boying village.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, in a Facebook post, said he visited the flood-hit areas of Pasighat with Chouhan, Khandu, BJP Arunachal Pradesh president Kaling Moyong and senior officials.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government stands firmly with the affected people and will continue to work closely with the state government to ensure timely relief, restoration and rehabilitation,” Rijiju said.
Chouhan said on X that he had also conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Keyi Panyor district and noted that the team had visited affected villages by road the previous evening to interact with residents.
“The Central and state governments stand firmly with the people during this time of crisis,” he said.
Describing the flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh and neighbouring Assam as severe, Chouhan said large-scale damage had been caused to homes and agricultural land.
“The situation due to floods in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam is grave. People’s homes have been devastated and crops have been destroyed. The Central Government stands firmly with the states during this difficult time. We held a review meeting with the Chief Minister and senior officials in Arunachal Pradesh and will also review the flood situation in Assam,” he said.
